Obituary for Elizabeth Merllean Kelly
Funeral services for Elizabeth Merllean Kelly will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at Good Hope Baptist Church with Reverends Gerald Wayne Hood and Huey Haymon officiating. Burial will follow in the Pisgah Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. The family and friends of Mrs. Kelly will gather for a visitation on Tuesday, August 13 from 5:00 p.m. until the time of service on Wednesday.
Mrs. Kelly was born on April 19, 1943, in Winnsboro, LA and passed away on August 11, 2019, in Anacoco, LA at the age of 76. She graduated from Vidalia High School and lived in Shreveport, LA for many years before making Anacoco her home of more than fifty years. Working at Tidbits and Tackle for almost half of those five decades, Mrs. Kelly was a constant in the community. Ever the competitive spirit, she enjoyed card and board games with family and friends, and in later years stayed connected with them playing online games. She enjoyed many outdoor activities such as deer hunting, water skiing, and motorcycle rides. Rumor has it she wasn’t a bad roller skater back in the day.
Mrs. Kelly was preceded in death by her parents, Winston Townsend Sr. and Leona Ezell Townsend, and sister, Ruth Ann Simpson.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 57 years, George Elonzo Kelly of Anacoco, LA and daughter, Donna Kelly of Silver Spring, Maryland; brothers, Winston Townsend Jr. of Jigger, LA, Melvin Townsend and wife Mary of Dangerfield, TX, and Harold Townsend and wife Ann of Terry MS; sisters-in-law, Nance McKee-Allen of Slagle, LA, and Cookie Kelly of Anacoco, LA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be DeWayne Kelly, Eloy Zayas, Kenneth Dale Kelly, Keith Kelly, Ronald Holman, and Donald Holman. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Robinson and Allen Chadwick.
