Elizabeth Evelyn Merchant Smith, 70, of Leander, Louisiana, passed from this life on November 10, 2021. Evelyn was born to Floyd and Ivor Mae Merchant on February 6, 1951. She was a graduate of Hicks High School, where she met her high school sweetheart, John Embree Smith, whom she married on May 17, 1969. A devoted woman of God, Evelyn was a homemaker, a church pianist, and Sunday school teacher of many years. She received great joy in accompanying her husband’s singing with her piano playing. Evelyn was cherished for her humility, grace, service, and strength of character.
In addition to her husband, she leaves her sons, Shawn David Smith (Christy) and John Floyd Smith (Robyn); daughter, Misty Dawn Smith; grandchildren, Madison Brook Blood, Sean Michael Smith, Colin David Smith, Jasper Isaiah Smith, and Abel Thomas Smith; great-grandchildren, Makayla Brook Launey and Easton David Stelly; sisters, Elaine Connell (Victor), Kala Sue Gordy (Thomas), and Betty Ann Freeman (Bruce); brother, Floyd Dempsey Merchant (Latricia); and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Evelyn will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at Calcasieu Baptist Church with Reverend Joey Rudisill and Brother Victor Connell officiating. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. A visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Sean Michael Smith, Colin Smith, Waylon Gordon, David Smith, Robert Maddox, and Kirk Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jasper Smith, Wilmer Smith, and Abel Thomas Smith.
