Obituary for Edward Leonard Spurgeon
Funeral services for Louisiana State Police SGT. (RET.) Edward Leonard Spurgeon will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at 10 :00 M in the First United Pentecostal Church of Leesville with Pastors; Mark Christian ,Terry Ward, Jeff Coleman and Bob Braley officiating. Burial with honors will follow in the Castor Cemetery under the direction of Jeane's Funeral Service of Leesville. Visitation for friends will began on Monday, June 16, 2014 at 4:00 P.M. in the First United Pentecostal Church of Leesville until 9:00 P.M. Leonard was born on July 4th, 1946 in Leesville to Edward L. and Lois Wise Spurgeon and passed away on Friday, June 13th, 2014 in his home at the age of 67 yrs, 11 months and 9 days. A 1964 graduate of Hicks High School he served our country in Viet Nam, where he received Two Purple Hearts, The Bronze Star and other honors for his sacrifice. On returning home he continued to serve by becoming a Louisiana State Trooper working out of former Troop H and the regional Troop E as Master Trooper and Sgt. After 33 yrs of service, Sgt. Spurgeon retired and worked 10 yrs for the Department of Army Police at Ft. Polk, he then worked for the U.S. Marshall's Service transporting prisoners around the country and taught DWI classes for the Vernon Parish Sheriffs Dept. Working on his land, raising cattle and enjoying the pleasures of living in the country with his family brought him great pleasure. Survivors are his wife: Brenda Jacobs Spurgeon of Leesville, Louisiana Three Daughters; Vaneesa Williams and husband Kenny, Leah Power and husband Tab and Lois Spurgeon all of Leesville. Three Sisters; Jane Delaney and husband Jerry of Lafayette, Sandra Marie Spurgeon and Rebecca Lois Spurgeon of Leesville. Grand children: MaKenneah "Tot" Williams, Tab A Power II and Kash Edward Williams, Three Brothers in law; Robert Jacobs and wife Denise of Pitkin and Edward Jacobs and wife Alene of Cravens Sister in law; Wanda O'Blanc and husband russell of Pitkin Aunt; Alice Craft of Anacoco Host of cousins, family and friends.
