Obituary for Edith Medina
A memorial service honoring the life of Edith Collmer Medina will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Jeane’s Funeral Service, 100 E. Union St. Leesville, LA 71446. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
It’s with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Edith Collmer Medina, who left this earth on Monday, August 1, 2022, at the age of 87. She was known to her family and friends as either Mutti, Musch, Edith, Medina, and/or Cookie.
Edith was born in Heilbronn, Germany on April 25, 1935, to Gustav and Emilie Collmer and relocated to the Unites States in 1960, eventually setting up residence and raising her family in Leesville/New Llano, LA (Vernon Parish). She started working as a cashier for the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES/PX) on Fort Polk in 1976 and worked her way up to Customer Service Manager until her retirement in 2006 after 30 years of faithful service. She had a tough exterior, along with the gift of “speaking her mind”, but deep down she had very loving heart with an “enormous personality” and a smile/laugh that few will ever forget. Although her journey through life was not always easy, it was her fierce survivor mentality that prevailed during those rough times and served as foundation for how she raised her family. She enjoyed being around her family and lifelong friends in the area throughout her life with many great memories shared.
Edith was preceded in death by Gustav Collmer (father), Emilie Collmer (mother), Gerda Umlauf (sister), Erich Collmer (brother), Klaus Collmer (brother), and Roland Collmer (son).
She is survived by her brother, Richard Collmer (wife Christiane); her sons, Veit Collmer (wife Beate), Michael Park, and Benjamin Medina (wife Christina); her daughters, Debbie Postlethweight (husband Mike-deceased), Nicole Harris, and Anita Gillespie (husband Don); seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and numerous nieces/nephews.
A special thank you and hugs go to Patti Watson, Kristen Johnson, and Bobbi Lowery who are extended family and caregivers that loved and cared for our mother through these last few years and up to the end of her life on this earth.
