Obituary for Dorothy Jean Gallman
Dorothy Jean Ford Gallman Dorothy "Dot" Jean Ford Gallman died peacefully on February 17, 2014 in Rosepine, La. surrounded by her loved ones. She was born April 5, 1929, in Pickering, La. Dot retired as a Trust officer with First City Bank of Houston, having worked early on as a legal secretary for the federal government in the area of finance and as an executive secretary of Signal Oil Company. A 1945 graduate of Leesville High School, Dot continued her education in business studies at business college and at the University of Houston and through continuing education programs. She is remembered for her ability to memorize long and complex poetry and other writing in literature, sewing and delicate needlework skills,gourmet cooking, her beautiful platinum blond hair in youth and her loving,kind, gracious and welcoming disposition A dedicated historian and genealogist, she was descended from the earliest settlers from Virginia to Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas and was proud to be able to identify those ancestors who settled in America during the colonial period and later fought in the American Revolution and the Texas War of Independence. She was preceeded in death by her paternal grandparents John and Virginia Dare Hagan Ford, maternal grandparents; John Jackson and Sina Adeline Smith Jean, her parents, LeRoy and Nora Ethel Jean Ford and older brother; Frank Marion Ford . Dot is survived by her husband Charles Michael Gallman of New Llano; son Darryl Alan Hinson of New Llano; granddaughter Hillary Jean Hinson Scheurich and husband Owen of Dallas, TX , Sister Norma Evelyn Ford Gerace of Baton Rouge and Brother: Judge John Charles Ford of New Llano, LA. A number of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly . Family will receive friends on Monday, February 24, 2014 at 9:00 am in the Chapel of Jeane's Funeral Service with a Remembrance Service starting at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Jeane's. Family request in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Saint Judes Research Center in memory of Dorothy.
