Funeral services for Dorothy Faye Duke will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Sunny Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Larry Vaughn officiating. The burial will follow in Old Anacoco Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. Serving as pallbearers will be Tanner Lachney, Louis Lachney, Thomas Graham, Danny Grant, Heath Williams, and Dillon Hillman, and honorary pallbearers will be DeWayne Marin, Butch Funderburk, Ken Kelly, Larry Johnson, and Jonathan Lewis. A visitation will be held at Sunny Hill Baptist Church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Dorothy was born February 5, 1943, in Socorro, New Mexico, and passed away September 24, 2024, in Alexandria, Louisiana at the age of 81. For many years along with her family, she owned and operated Kurthwood Store then she worked as the Kurthwood PostMaster. Dorothy was a talented lady who used her artistic ability to create oil paintings and blessed others by giving them painted rocks as keepsakes. She enjoyed traveling, visiting the mountains, gardening, tending her flowers, and collecting antiques. The Lord gave her a servant’s heart that she used to bless her family, friends, and church family, and she cherished each one of them. As a member of Sunny Hill Baptist Church, Dorothy spent countless hours volunteering her time serving others. Her family felt her love in many ways as she always tried to take care of everyone.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Grady James Barnett & Leta Jones Barnett; brother, Luther Barnett; and sisters, Mary Blanton, Alene Moore, & Nelly Moore.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 58 years, Wayne Grant Duke of Kurthwood, LA;
son, Christopher Grant Duke of Kurthwood, LA;
daughters, Kay Christina Lachney (Louis) of Simpson, LA and Cheryl Lynn Green of Livingston, TX;
grandchildren, Amanda Duke Branch (John), Jordan Christine Lachney, Ashley Michelle Green, Haleigh Abilene Lachney, Maycee Jean Lachney, and Tanner Wayne Lachney;
great-grandchildren, Levi Elijah Duke, Jolene Faye Anderson, Journey Lynn Green, and Jeremiah Clark Duke Branch;
brother, Alton Barnett (Pat) of Paragould, AR;
sister, Alice Klensky of Redmond, OR;
and extended family members, church members, and friends.
