Doris June Nordby was born on Sept 5th, 1942 in Valentine Nebraska to Edward and Lola Cutler. Doris went home to be with Jesus in the early morning hours of Feb. 23rd, 2024. She passed peacefully just 2 months after her loving husband of 54 years, Dr Earl Nordby Jr.

Doris spent her childhood in Nebraska and moved to Twin Falls, ID her senior year of High School. After graduating from Twin Falls High School, she ventured out to Bethany University in Scotts Valley, CA, near Santa Cruz. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree, which led her to becoming an elementary school teacher at Gardenia Valley Christian School. It was here that she met her soulmate, and began her lifelong journey with her husband Earl.

Doris loved to read. She often would finish a book the same day in which she started reading it. Some of her favorite activities included leading Women’s Bible studies, browsing antique stores, collecting Rose O’Neill Kewpie dolls, and Teddy Bears.

As a Pastor’s wife, she was often a guest speaker at Women’s Ministries retreats and conferences. She was a constant prayer warrior, and often organized prayer groups, and led telephone prayer chains at the churches her husband pastored.

Her love of children was evident by her long career as an elementary school teacher, where she taught kindergarten and first grade in Monticello, MN, Morgan Hill, CA, and most recently Centralia, WA.

In 2017, Doris and Earl moved to Leesville, LA to be closer to her youngest daughter. Here she lived out her final days in the care of Summer House Assisted Living.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Lola Cutler, and sister Carol.

She was survived by: her son, Earl Robert Nordby III and wife Beth, of Arizona, her daughter Korisa Riley and husband Lance of Idaho, daughter Dorea Schmidt and husband Kevin of Louisiana; her grandchildren: Stevie Nordby, Matthew Nordby, Danielle Nordby, Madissen Nordby, Nate Riley and wife Alexis, Emma Riley and husband Simon, Luke Riley, Scott Schmidt and wife Shelby, Brett Schmidt and wife Autumn, Rachel Schmidt, Timothy Schmidt, and Julia Schmidt; her great grandchildren: Hudson, Jaxson, Blade, Katana, Bailey, Kinsley, and Aiden.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to both Summer House Assisted Living, and Jeane’s Funeral Service.
