Obituary for Donnie Gene Stephens
Donnie G. Stephens, Sr. passed away at the age of 68 and is now in the Arms of Jesus.
He was raised and lived in Leesville, LA and attended the Pickering Schools from Kindergarten all the way through his High School Graduation in 1968. He joined the Merchant Marines for a short period and then went to work at the Coca Cola plant in Leesville after marrying Bonnie Jeanine Walker (now Fertitta) & they were together for 33 years. He was the loving father of three children: Deana Natice Valenzuela of Lafayette, LA, Esther Barbara Carag of Renton, WA, and Donnie Gene Stephens, Jr. of West Bend, WI.
After working for Coca Cola, he joined the local Cable TV company in Leesville where he continued his career for over 30 years. He then transferred to and retired from the American Warrior Networks as a Technical Supervisor on Fort Polk where he helped establish & implement the fiber cable that is still used today. He also belonged to the F&AM Masonic Lodge of Pickering and was a member of Ducks Unlimited and Cooper Baptist Church.
He later married his wife, Virginia Stephens, and moved to Many, LA to live on the lake and was the loving Stepfather to Brandi Kay of Evans, LA, Coty Baily of Leesville, LA & Misty Bailey and fiancée Ascension Castor of Many, LA whom he loved like his own children.
He loved hunting & fishing, especially on Toledo Bend where he lived. He enjoyed watching football & watched or listened to any game he could. He was a die-hard New Orleans Saints fan even when they were lovingly called the ‘Aints.’ One of Donnie’s greatest pleasures was spending time with his grandson, Lil’Man, riding in his boat on the lake, playing on the computer, or doing things together in the yard. He loved it when Lil’Man would call him Pee Paw.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Fred Stephens & Esther Stephens of Leesville, LA & left behind his sister, JoAnn Lara of Fort Worth, TX, fourteen grandchildren, and many other family members & friends throughout Central Louisiana.
There will be a visitation for Friends & Family on June 2nd at Jeane’s Funeral Home in Leesville, LA from 9 AM to 12 PM. A private family service will be held later that day at 1 PM followed by a burial at Craft Cemetery in Leesville, LA. Please do join us for the visitation to remember and celebrate his life.
