Obituary for Donice Fay Kennedy Smith
Funeral services for Donice Fay Kennedy Smith will be held at 2:00 p.m.at Oak Grove Congregational Methodist Church in Burr Ferry with Reverends Larry Jarrell and Brent Noble officiating. Burial will follow in Plunkaway Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. A visitation will be held at the church Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Donice was born October 21, 1936, in Burr Ferry, LA and passed away September 9, 2021, in DeRidder, LA at the age of 84. She owned and operated Smith’s Shed in Burr Ferry for 28 years. Donice served her community faithfully and liked to help anyone in need. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding horses. She was a member of Oak Grove Methodist Church and truly loved her church. Donice was close to her family, especially her sisters, nieces, and nephews. Donice proudly watched her nieces and nephews play sports.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, J.W. Smith and Max Shaw; parents, Grady Americus Kennedy and Verdie Violia Craft Kennedy; and two brothers, Arnold Kennedy and Charles Kennedy.
Those left to cherish their memories of Donice are her sisters, Abbie Jewel Mitcham of Burr Ferry, Wanda Jordan and husband John of Burkeville, TX, and Charlene Jeane and husband George of Evans, LA and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Kolby Cook, Konner Cook, Grady Mitcham, Jaren Mitcham, Bryan Kennedy, and Jakey Mitcham. Honorary pallbearers will be Kollin Cook, Parker Alexander, and Rylee Gill.
