Obituary for Donald Benard McRae
Funeral services for Donald Benard McRae will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Old Anacoco Baptist Church with Reverend Wayne Chance officiating. Burial will follow in Self Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 13, 2018, at Old Anacoco Baptist Church and again on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the service time.
Donald Benard McRae was born on October 31, 1936, in Leesville, Louisiana. He went home on April 12, 2018, to be with his Lord and his loved ones in Heaven. He graduated from Anacoco High School in 1956 and lived most of his life in Vernon Parish. He worked as a lab and x-ray technician at the former Broyles Clinic until 1958 before moving to Minden where he worked for Minden Medical Center. In 1960, Don was drafted into the U.S. Army. After basic training, he was stationed at Ft. McClellan, Alabama in their Chemical Unit. In 1962, he and his family returned to Minden. He resumed his position as lab and x-ray technician at Minden Medical Center. In 1967, he and his family moved to Leesville to help with his father’s business. The family later moved to DeRidder where they owned a Montgomery Ward Catalog Store, and Don also worked in the lab at Fort Polk. After many years, Don changed his career field and went to work for Fort Polk in their Engineering and Environmental Department until his retirement in 2006. He also worked several years with Cubic as a role player, and worked for the Anacoco Town Hall. Mr. McRae was a lifelong member of Old Anacoco Baptist Church. Don loved and trusted the Lord as his Savior. He also loved his family and friends dearly, and his Christian walk was exemplified throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel Bert McRae and Edna Ollie Weeks; son, Kevin D. McRae; and infant sister, Patricia McRae.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Jeffrey A. McRae of Dallas, TX, his daughter, Brooke McRae Watts and husband Larry of Alexandria;
Sisters, Joy E. Fondren of Leesville and Priscilla L. Handorf and husband Lloyd of Leesville; and Dianne L. Coffman and husband Cliff of Shreveport.
Brother, William G. “Bill” McRae and wife Pat of Leesville;
Grandchildren, Britney Watts of Shreveport; Bridget Worsham and husband Kensie both of Keithville; and Bryce Watts of Alexandria.
He also had a host of extended family, step-son Keith Richardson and wife Alesia of Leesville; step-daughter in law --- Melinda Newman and Husband Ellis of Natchitoches; step-daughter Kimberly McInnis and husband Pete of Anacoco; step-daughter Kelli Roberts and husband Mark of Natchitoches; step-daughter Krystal Tilley, of New Llano; 14 Step-grandchildren and 6 step-great grandchildren.

The family would like to express their appreciation and thanks to Dr. Robert Bass, Dr. Tanyanika Phillips, nurse Katrina and Cabrini Cancer Center nursing staff, Deanna West, All Saints Hospice, and the Rapides Regional Medical Center 6th Floor Nursing Staff for their compassionate and loving care during the past months.
