Obituary for Dewey Wyatt Robertson
Funeral services honoring the life of Dewey W. "Sonny" Robertson will be held on Friday, September 12, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in the Antioch Baptist Church, 2241 Slagle Loop, Slagle, LA with Reverends Glenn Cooley and Greg Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Antioch Cemetery under the direction of Jeane's Funeral Service of Leesville. Visitation will begin on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. and then from 8:00 A.M. until service time of Friday. Dewey was born on June 30, 1933 in Slagle, LA to Henry Dewey and Mildred Harville Robertson and passed away on Friday, September 5, 2014 at his home in Slagle at the age of 81 years, 2 months and 7 days. Preceding him in death were his Parents: Henry and Mildred Robertson, Wife: Delores Smith Robertson, Brother: Tommy Robertson and Step-daughter: Beth Davis He is survived by his wife: Ann Arrington Robertson of Slagle, LA. Son and Daughter in law: Steven and Ruth Robertson of Chiang-Mai Thailand, Daughter and Son in law: Leah and Danny Hughes of Galveston, TX. Grandsons: Dustin Hughes and Jonathan Dewey Robertson, Three Granddaughters: Chelsea Hughes, Cassandra Gwaltney and Hannah Robertson. Stepdaughters: Claire Donaldson and Traci Davis of TX, Seven Step-Grandchildren and 10 Step Great-Grandchildren. Two Nieces: Teresa Chelette and Toni Snider. He also leaves behind a host of friends and other family members. Dewey played football at Hooks H.S. Hooks, TX and played trombone in the high school band and in the Texas A&M Band. He served in the U.S. Army as a radio operator in Germany and while there bought his first accordion and enjoyed playing it for family and friends at family reunions. Music was his passion. He was active in church where he played piano and also played at the Woodlands Nursing Center weekly with the East Leesville Baptist Church CIA. He had served as a deacon at Antioch Baptist Church, Calvary Baptist Church in Lufkin, TX and Slagle Baptist Church. He worked for Texas Dept of Public Safety in Dallas, TX and was a draftsman for General Dynamics in Ft Worth, TX. where he help design aircraft parts. He taught drafting in Bedford, and Plano, TX before returning to his home at Slagle. He retired from the LA. Dept of Revenue in Alexandria and Cenla Federal Credit Union of Alexandria. A Mason for over 50 years, he was a member of the N.H. Bray Lodge and loved to garden, travel, build bird houses, playing gospel music and restoring vintage volkswagons.
