Obituary for Daisy Brown Powell
A funeral service for Daisy Brown Powell will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. at Union Baptist Church, 39200 Hwy. 171 Florien, LA 71429, with Reverend John Thompson officiating under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2017, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Union Baptist Church.
Daisy was born on April 9, 1923, to Otis and Cora Brown and passed away on February 22, 2017, at the age of 93. She was a graduate of Hornbeck High School and married James “Jimmy” Powell in 1943. James and Daisy helped start Alford Heights Church in Many, LA. She loved to plant flowers and to read the Bible to her children. Sewing and eating Mexican food were both joys to her. Daisy loved being a Sunday school teacher and to ride around and sightsee. She believed the Lord gave her a long life because she obeyed the command to honor and obey her parents. Daisy wanted everyone to know that Jesus in the only way and one of her last wishes was for her children to love each other.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 86 years – James “Jimmy” Powell; brothers – Robert Brown, Floyd Brown, Ray Brown, Jerry Brown, and John L. Brown; sister – Irene Starkweather; and grandson – Anthony “Tony” Duncan.
Survivors include her sons: Don Powell of Hornbeck, LA, Wayne Powell and wife Janet of Hornbeck, LA, Doyle Powell and wife Cindy of Hornbeck, LA, and Gene Powell of Corpus Christi, TX
Daughters: Glenda Broyles and husband Charles of Hornbeck, LA and Tammy Summers and husband David of Evans, LA
Sister: Margie Procell of Shreveport, LA
Grandchildren: Ken, Jimmy, Mark, Aaron, Matthew, Patrick, Sherry, Kami, Marissa, and Heather
Great Grandchildren: Erica, Blake, Gabriella, Gaven, Ethan, Madelynn, Gracyn, Mason, Nina, Samantha, and Anna
