Obituary for Charles "Chuck" Ralph Simmons

Funeral services for Charles “Chuck” Ralph Simmons will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April

21, 2023, at East Leesville Baptist Church with Reverends Tommy Kiker and Glen Cooley

officiating. The burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery under the direction of

Jeane’s Funeral Service. The pallbearers will be Leroy Alligood, Landry Alligood, Buddy

Wynne, David McConathy, Jason Green, and Chuck Christ. The honorary pallbearers will be

Charles Bealer, Garry D. Dowden, Jimmy Funderburk, Dwain Perkins, Greg Frederick, Douglas

Martin, Larry Littleton, Danny Cedars, Keith Bush, Bill Tyree, Charles Marze, Mike Bordelon,

Sam Craft, and Jason Carroll.

A visitation will be held at East Leeville Baptist Church on Thursday, April 20th from 5:00 to

8:00 p.m. and again on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Charles was born July 23, 1943, in Kurthwood, Louisiana and passed away at his home on April

18, 2023, at the age of 79 after a brief illness.

Charles proudly served his country in the Unites States Army and National Guard. He was

installed as a Mason in 1964 at the Kisatchie Bray Union Lodge #379 where he remained a

member for over 50 years. He was a master carpenter and built houses across Vernon Parish and

the surrounding area. He enjoyed working with wood, especially making clocks with his scroll

saw. He loved to hunt and especially looked forward to his yearly Colorado elk hunting trips

with his buddies. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. They were

his everything! He had many, many friends who loved and adored him for his kind, sweet spirit.

Charles was ordained as a deacon in 1977 and served at East Leesville Baptist Church where he

was a member and also served at First Baptist Church of Leesville.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Burnice “Boots” Simmons and Dorothy Farris

Simmons and brother, Jerry Simmons.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 52 years, Joan Rachal Simmons of

Kurthwood; daughters Jennifer Simmons Alligood and husband Leroy of Anacoco, LA and Amy

Simmons Wynne and husband Buddy of Baton Rouge, LA. Grandchildren: Lindsey Claire

Alligood and Landry Charles Alligood along with many extended family members, and

numerous friends.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to David McConathy, Lisa Frederick,

the staff on the 2nd and 3rd floors at Byrd Regional Hospital, and Dr. Hanna Lubbos.
