Obituary for Carl Richard Harter
A funeral service for Carl Richard Harter will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at New Llano Baptist Church, 329 2nd St. New Llano, Louisiana 71461, with Reverend Les Comeaux officiating under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at New Llano Baptist Church from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Carl was born on October 10, 1947, and passed away on February 18, 2017, at the age of 69. On July 3, 1971, he married his best friend, Vickie, and eventually the birth of their three children brought him much joy. In 1967, he joined the Army and had a distinguished career as a First Sergeant until his retirement in 1989. Throughout his twenty-two years of active duty, Carl received many honors and awards including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Parachute Badge, Combat Medical Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal (6th award), Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon (2). After retirement, Carl taught a computer course at Lamar Salter before working at the VA Medical Center in both Alexandria, LA and Jackson, Mississippi, then he worked at BJACH. He was a member of New Llano Baptist Church He was a member of New Llano Baptist Church and loved computers, his service dog -Kayte, and his service brothers. Carl had a need for speed cars, and was finally able to own a corvette. Above all, he loved his family, and he will be missed by all who were blessed to know him.
Preceding him in death was his father – Robert Harter, his son – Christopher Richard Harter, and his daughter – Teresa Nicole Harter
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 45 years: Vickie Harter of Leesville, LA
Daughter: Michelle Renee Harter of Houston, Texas
Mother: Bette Hartman of Leesville, LA
Brother: Dana Auman of Pennsylvania
Sister: Roberta Gockley of Pennsylvania
Grandchildren: Taylor Nicole Harter of Houston, TX and Lilian Grace Munley of Leesville, LA
Three nieces and one nephew
His special service dog – Kayte
A host of friends and his military brothers in arms
Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Roberts, Jesse Luehr, Van Martin, Brad Munley, Chuck Pritchard, Steve Humphries, Willie Courtney, and J.B. Taylor
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the PTSD Veterans Association.
