Obituary for Carissa Rayne Gillis
A funeral service for Carissa Rayne Gillis will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2017, at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 765 Mt. Moriah Church Road Hineston, Louisiana 71438, with Brother Brian Johnson officiating under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. Burial will follow in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and will continue until the time of service on Thursday.
Carissa was born on October 18, 2002, and passed away on April 17, 2017, at the age of 14. She was born in Alexandria, LA and raised in the Hicks/Hineston area. Carissa was an 8th grader at Hicks High School and a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Playing sports, painting, and drawing were all things Carissa enjoyed doing, but reading was her favorite hobby. She also loved the outdoors and her special service dog and loyal companion, Marlow. Carissa inspired so many with her courage and unstoppable spirit. She will forever be remembered as a loving daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, and friend.
Preceding her in death were her great grandparents.
Left to cherish her memory are her parents: Cindy and Richard Smith of Hicks, LA and Robert and Dawn Gillis of Fayetteville, North Carolina
Brothers: Gavin Gillis of Hicks, LA and Mark Lewis Jr. of Marksville, LA
Sisters: Kynzlea Lewis, Chasity Smith, Ryley Smith, Hadlee Smith all of Hicks, LA and Madelyn Gillis of North Carolina
Grandparents: Margaret and Dale Funderburk of Simpson, LA, Patricia and Claude Gillis of Franklin, LA, Linda and Marshall “Gene” Smith of Hicks, LA, and Laura and Larry McIntosh of Fayetteville, NC
Great grandparents: Jane Sloan of Pineville, LA and Odein Gillis of Alexandria, LA
A host of extended family
Pallbearers will be Adam Coffman, Mark Lewis, Kevin Eaves, John Rabalais, Dusty Null, and Jacob Austin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Zeb Funderburk, Ethan Funderburk, Gavin Gillis, Mark Lewis Jr., Addison Coffman, and Aiden Coffman.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Dreams Come True, PO Box 1252, Youngsville, LA 70592.
