Obituary for Bryant Thompson

Funeral services for Bryant Thompson will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Freedom Baptist Church, 50 Freedom Church Road Pitkin, LA 70656, with Reverend Jeff James officiating and Shannon Johnson and Janene Willis speaking. Burial will follow in Occupy #1 Cemetery, 37 Occupy #1 Road Pitkin, LA under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be Nicholas Ortiz, Tye Turner, Paul Willis, Keith Mason, Macy Willis, and Bruce Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be Huel Willis, Bill Cunningham, and Danny Wilson.

A visitation will be held at Freedom Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Bryant passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, surrounded by his family. Bryant was born October 2, 1934. Bryant was a logger by trade but a cowboy by heart. He loved his cows, his family, and most importantly his God.

Bryant was a lifelong resident of Pitkin, LA. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest M. Thompson; mother, Wordney Willis Thompson; four brothers, Erby Thompson Sr., Wilmer Thompson, Delbert Thompson, and Henry Thompson; and sister, Bonnie Mae Thompson Giles.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sylvia Johnson Thompson of Pitkin, LA; daughter, Rita Thompson Patterson and husband Fred of Point Blank, TX; granddaughter, Leslie Cloud Ortiz and husband Ray of Anacoco, LA; grandson, Christopher Cloud of Alexandria, LA; great-granddaughter, Angela Ortiz Turner and husband Tye of DeRidder, LA; great-grandsons, Nicholas Bryant Ortiz and wife Emily of Pineville, LA and Jonathon Cloud; and great-great-grandson, Tatum Thomas Ortiz. He is also survived by his sister, Earlene Bottini of Stockton, CA and brother, E.M. Thompson of Pitkin, LA.

Bryant had an adopted daughter, Janene Strother Willis whom he loved very much. She and her husband, Macy and son, Huel were very dear to Bryant’s heart.

He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
