Bobby was born on January 22, 1943, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Troy and Thelma Skidmore. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Army in November 1960. He was later stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana, where he met the love of his life, Sharon Roberts, and they married in January 1962. The couple briefly moved to Tennessee before returning to Vernon Parish.

Throughout his life, Bobby juggled several jobs, including driving a cab, working at a jewelry store on Lower Third Street, and operating a cement truck for Leesville Concrete. He spent many years working offshore before retiring from the motor pool at Fort Polk. Bobby cherished his faith in the Lord, his family, a good filet, and his Tennessee Volunteers. He ensured that his family was always provided for, making sure they had food on the table and clothes on their backs. Papaw loved all his grandchildren, and when the great-grandchildren arrived, he embraced that role with more enthusiasm.

A charter member of the New Llano Fire Department, Bobby held a special place in his heart for all the firefighters, who reciprocated his affection. They were always in his thoughts and prayers. In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing golf with his buddies at the Leesville Golf Course. He fought valiantly in his battle against cancer. Bobby will be profoundly missed, but he left a positive impact on everyone who knew him.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Troy Skidmore and mother Thelma Goins.

He is survived by his loving wife Sharon Skidmore of New Llano,

children, Jeff Skidmore “Benita” of Anacoco, Rhonda Bartram “Mark” of Livonia, MI, and Sam Fertitta (#2 son);

grandchildren, Marty and spouse Katrena, Jessica and spouse James, Dereck and spouse McKenzie, and Brad and spouse Arielle;

great grandchildren, Jett, Jaci, Kendall, Hadley, Brooks, Ke’ala, Kamea, Sienna, Presley, and Parker.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

My family would like to express our deepest gratitude to Passages Hospice, especially Kadi, Allegra, and Pastor Kevin, for their care and compassion during this time. We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the New Llano Volunteer Fire Department for their unwavering support whenever needed
