Obituary for Billie Kay Wellman WIlbanks
A funny thing happened on the way through life…
On February 3rd, 1951 the world was blessed with “Kay” Wilbanks. Guardian angels were dispatched and the journey began. Determination defined her and drove her into the successful person she became. She graduated high school in 1969 and worked her way up to become the executive vice president of Merchants and Farmers Bank. Her career provided opportunities and adventures she would forever talk about. Family was a priority. She loved her kids, and if given the chance, she would be in the stands cheering on her grandchildren and their teammates. Mrs. Kay loved her church and church family, but more importantly she knew who her savior was and chose to speak of Him often. God gave her a desire for the youth of the Hicks community. She was passionate about seeing them saved and poured her heart and soul into providing opportunities for them to develop a relationship with God. Her passion for youth was also displayed in her role as an advocate for CASA.
If you have had a conversation with Mrs. Kay, you know her desire was to write a book titled “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way Through Life.” Her life was eventful, and she loved to tell about it. In the words of a family member, “She was dynamic, fun-loving, Christ-centered, family oriented, and spent her life serving others.” Without ever picking up a pen, she wrote her book. It’s published in the heart of any individual who had the pleasure of meeting her. She will be dearly missed and irreplaceable.
Mrs. Kay was preceded in death by her father, Bertie Wellman, brother-in-law John O’Malley, infant sister, Georgia Sue, and nephew Chad Spangler.
