Obituary for Betty Mae Selvidge Wankel
A graveside service for Betty Mae Selvidge Wankel will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2020 in Fort Jessup Cemetery, Geohagan Road in Many, Louisiana, with Reverend Sean Cho officiating under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. The service will be livestreamed and available for viewing later on Jeane Funeral Service Facebook page.
Mrs. Wankel was born May 26, 1927 and passed away June 29, 2020 at the age of 93. She was a life-long Christian with a great faith in God. She was a pastor’s wife in the Church of the Nazarene for many years. Her love of music included playing the piano and accordion and singing in church choirs and with her sisters. Mrs. Wankel’s hobbies included sewing, crafts, and growing plants. In later years, she enjoyed going to VCOA where she visited with friends and played Bingo.
Mrs. Wankel was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Paul Wankel; father, Marshal Selvidge; mother, Homa Selvidge; sisters, Kathern Alcorn and Thelma Allison; and brothers, Audra Selvidge and Eugene Selvidge.
Left to cherish her memory are four daughters, Paula Graves; Esther Weis and husband Henry; Marsha Stoker and husband Randy; and Denise Ward and husband Wayne,
six grandchildren, Landen Stoker and wife Sabrina; Traci Weis Wilcox and husband Dan; Melissa Graves Dunbar and husband Philip; Kristi Weis Bailey and husband Nick; Kelvan Stoker; and Larissa Ward,
and eight great grandchildren, Abbey; Carter; Brayden; Braxton; Brooklyn; Ellie Jo; Charlie; and Nathan.
In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Wankel’s family requests that donations in her memory be made to the First United Methodist Church, 202 N. 5th Street Leesville, LA 71446 or to the charity of your choice.
