Obituary for Betty Cavanaugh Howard
Services for Mrs. Betty Pauline Cavanaugh Howard will be held on Saturday, July 4, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Castor Baptist Church at 2057 Slagle Road, Leesville, LA. Visitation will begin at 4:00 on Friday, July 3, 2015 at Castor Baptist Church and will continue until the time of the service on Saturday. Mrs. Betty was born on April 10, 1943 in Leesville and passed away on July 2, 2015. Mrs. Betty was a lifelong resident of Vernon Parish growing up in Slagle, graduating from Leesville High School and spending her married life in Hornbeck. Affectionately known as The First Lady of Vernon Parish, Mrs. Betty spent 33 years as the secretary of Hornbeck High School. She knew every child and was often called to act as the tooth fairy by pulling teeth. Even after she retired she attended Hornets" basketball games whenever she could. She loved her family fiercely as well as her community and often times they were the same. She was preceded in death by her parents, Garland Morris and Mable Jeane Cavanaugh. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Frankie Alden Howard of Hornbeck, LA Sons: Robert and Shonda Howard of Hornbeck, LA, Rodney and Kim Howard of Ft. Worth, TX, and Ryan Howard of Seattle, WA. Grandchildren: Katy and Matt Stephens of Hornbeck, LA, Lesley and Brian Walls of Marshall, TX, Jacob Howard of Shreveport, LA, Courtney and Daniel Williams of Houston, TX Great grandchildren: Kora Williams of Houston, TX and Raylond Howard of Hornbeck, LA Sister: Shirley and Charles Shirley of Houston, TX Brothers: Jack and Pat Cavanaugh of Hornbeck, Larry and Linda Cavanaugh of Bishop, LA, and Garland Cavanaugh of Bossier City, LA Mrs. Betty touched so many, always showing up where there was a need.
