Obituary for Ben Nell M. Hagan
Funeral services for Ben Nell Hagan will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2020 at Hicks United Pentecostal Church, 3441 Hwy. 121 Leesville, LA with Reverends Greg Mortensen and Tully Burns officiating. Burial will follow in Hicks Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service. There will be a visitation at the church from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 13th.
Nell was born November 21, 1929 and passed away August 11, 2020 in Leesville, LA at the age of 90. She was born and raised in the Glenmora area and worked as the assistant Post Master in the Hicks Grocery Post Office. Nell was a devoted mother and grandmother to her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She always kept her home and car perfectly clean. Nell enjoyed fishing and watching both car races and basketball games, especially when her grandchildren were playing.
Nell was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Selmer Hagan; parents, Wilbur Felix Melder Sr. and Lenora Pearl Collins Melder; brothers, Gumbo, Roy, Smiles, L.V., Max, and Ted Melder; sister, Jewel Melder Chandler; brother-in-law, Bernell Hagan; and in-laws, Jim and Dois Hagan.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Ronnie Hagan and wife JoAnn,
daughter, Deborah Morrow and husband Gary,
fourteen grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren, eighteen great-great grandchildren,
brother-in-law, James Hagan and wife Ronaleen,
sisters-in-law, Carolyn Melder, Barbara Melder, and Linda Sue Brister and husband Clayton,
and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Hagan, Robert Hagan, Seth Wellman, Jarred Morrow, Charley Morrow, and D.D. Davis.
Honorary pallbearers will be her great grandsons.
Mrs. Hagan’s family extends a special thanks to The Woodlands staff, Byrd Hospital second floor nurses, Dr. Aymond, and Dr. Lord. Their compassion and care in her final days were very much appreciated. Also, they wish to thank everyone at Hicks United Pentecostal Church as well.
