Obituary for Arthur Stephen Cole

Arthur Stephen (Steve) Cole, 73 passed from this life on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at his residence in Hornbeck, Louisiana. Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Hornbeck with Reverend Jack Bell and Reverend Bill Hines officiating. Burial will follow at Prewitt's Chapel Cemetery, under the direction of Jeane's Funeral Services. Visitation for family will be at 4:00 PM and for friends from 5:00 until 10:00 PM on Thursday, September 25, 2014 and his going home celebration will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 26, 2014. Steve, the son of Arthur Lee and Mildred Cole, was born in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. He graduated from West Lake High School in 1959. He served in the US Army for 3 years and the next 3 years in the US Army Reserves. He retired in 1996 from BellSouth as a supervisor with 32 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers Of America. He was a Alderman for the town of Hornbeck for a year and then was elected Mayor in 1988 where he served for 12 years. Steve and his family moved to Hornbeck in 1976. He was a highly active citizen of Hornbeck. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hornbeck and was currently serving as the church treasurer. He was a charter member of the Hornbeck Optimist Club, serving from 1985-present. He was an avid supporter of the youth and a loyal Hornbeck Hornet fan. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Linda Cole of Hornbeck; 2 daughters Stacy Hughes of Hornbeck, Tracy and husband Joey Williams of Anacoco; 5 grandchildren Brittany Hughes, Sydney Williams, Tryon-Stephen Williams, Logan Hughes and Austin Williams; 1 sister Shirley Barnes and 1 brother Edward (Bud) Cole and wife Maureen all of West Lake, Louisiana In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the Hornbeck Optimist Club, Scholarship Fund.
