Obituary for Archie L. Martin
Archie L. Martin, Jr. was born February 12, 1939 in Anacoco, LA and passed away on September 3, 2020 in McComb, MS. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 6, 2020 at 1 pm followed by funeral services at 2 pm at First Baptist Church of Anacoco. Following the funeral service, a graveside service will be held at Mitchell Cemetery.
Archie was a long-time resident of Anacoco. Following graduation from Anacoco High School in 1958, Archie went on to serve the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office before retirement after 34 years of service. During his time with the VPSO, he was strongly committed to service to the parish and the department. He helped establish both the reserve deputy corps and the D.A.R.E outreach. His passion and dedication to the D.A.R.E program in support and education of parish youth was recognized by President Ronald Reagan. Following his retirement from VPSO, he also worked with Prison Enterprises of Louisiana and later with Hixon Ford and Toyota of Leesville.
He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Anacoco, was an avid supporter of the sports programs at Anacoco High School, was a member of the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association and Louisiana Cattlemen’s Association. Through his work and experiences, he was known by and was a friend to many, not only in Vernon Parish, but across the state and was a shoulder of support in times of need.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Archie L. Martin, Sr., his brother and sister-in-law, John and Jolie Martin and his sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Joe Nash. He was the loving husband of his wife of 59 years, Clarine Martin, a loving dad to his daughters Margaret Hart and husband John of McComb, MS and Lori Jensen and husband Christof of Raleigh, NC, and most especially a loving grandfather to Ashley Pendleton, Lindsay Pendleton, Tucker Hart, Kelly Hart, Gabriella Jensen, Trevor Jensen and one great granddaughter, Maggie Claire Traigle.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests consideration of a donation to the youth program at First Baptist Church of Anacoco, St Jude Children’s Hospital or Shriner’s Hospital.
Only out of concern of the current circumstances and due to our heartfelt wish to ensure the health and safety of all our family and friends, the family requests that those who can attend the services to please wear a mask within the church.
