Obituary for Anthony Bob Phillips
Anthony Bob Phillips passed away at his home in Anacoco, Louisiana, on Sunday, September 6, 2020, at the age of 79. Bob courageously and without complaint, fought a 15-month battle with metastatic bone and prostate cancer.
Bob was born on January 17, 1941 in the Creole Community of Diamond, Louisiana, and was a lifelong resident of Plaquemines Parish until his retirement in December 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick Philippe and Nora Barthelemy; mother-in-law, Francene Zakkour; and brother-in-law, Joseph Rome.
He is survived by his wife of forty years, Rita Kay-Phillips and sisters, Victorine P. Rome and Jessica P. (Reverend Elroy) Mackey. Bob was the father of Simone M. Phillips, Lolita P. (Ivy) Barthelemy, Gregory R. Blanchard, Amee R. Thomas, Anthony R. (Jean) Phillips Jr., and Benita (Richard) Alston of South Carolina. He had eight grandchildren: Monique and Brittney Alston; Jene’, Anthony, and Ricky Blanchard; Samone Scott; and Samantha and Tiger Phillips. Bob was godfather to Rene’ Ancar, Rochelle Fitte, Donya Sylve, and the late Melinda Landry-Barthelemy and Sherise Sylve. Bob leaves behind many beloved family members: his in-laws Wayne (Srie) Kay and Daniel Zakkour and a host of brothers and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law Michele Kay-Cacibauda, whom he considered a sister.
Bob was a U.S. Army Veteran serving from 1963 to 1965. He was an employee of the Archdiocese of New Orleans at St. Jude Catholic Church; Plaquemines Parish Road, Bridges, and Levee Maintenance Superintendent; owner of Bay Batiste Oyster Co.; and a heavy equipment operator at Duplessis Trick and Tractor Co. Bob enjoyed duck and rabbit hunting, fishing, farming, and tinkering with small engines. He loved to laugh and always had a song to sing. He loved the Lord and was a founding member of River of Life Church in Port Sulphur, Louisiana. Bob’s greatest joy was his family. He loved each and every member of his family more than his own life.
A memorial service will be held at River of Life Church, Hwy. 23 Port Sulphur, Louisiana, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2020, with Reverend Roy Mareno, pastor, and Reverend Elroy Mackey officiating. The cremation was entrusted to Jeane’s Funeral Service.
Bob’s favorite charitable organization was St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in his memory.
