Obituary for Anita Carol McClaugherty
Anita Carol McClaugherty, 85, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2015 at Grace Care Center in Houston, TX. Anita was born on April 11, 1929 in Wichita, Kansas to the late Joshua Paul and Ethel Leone DeVore. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Curtis L. McClaugherty. Anita was born at home in Kansas right before the Great Depression. She often shared stories about growing up on a farm in Missouri milking cows on cold mornings and completing chores before going to school each day. An avid reader, she often talked about going to the public library as a child with her sisters and checking out the maximum amount of books each week. This love of reading continued even to the last years of her life. For many years, Anita spent hours knitting dozens of sets of caps, mittens, and scarves to be sent to children in the Appalachian Mountains. Mrs. McClaugherty retired from the Fort Polk Campus of Northwestern State University. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She volunteered with the Army Community Service organization of Ft. Polk; and was also instrumental in the establishment of the Leesville Chapter of the Rotary Anns. In addition to being an avid reader, Anita enjoyed working on various needlework projects, especially quilting and knitting. The family will receive visitors Friday, March 6, 2015 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Jeane's Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 11:00 am at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Bulhof officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Anita is survived by her five daughters, Carol (Carl) Keller of Clarksville, TN, Shelly (Michael) Taylor of Houston, TX, Danna (Thomas) Bradford, of Leesville, Donna (Terry) Partigianoni, of Leesville and Janet (Kenneth) Perry, of Tampa, FL, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Cory Keller, Joshua Bradford, Thomas Bolton, Ryan Bradford, Curtis Perry and Kyle Perry. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Anita's name to the "Miracle Offering" of First United Methodist Church of Leesville, 202 North Fifth Street, Leesville, La 71446, or to the charity of your choice.
