Obituary for Alton Buddy Self
Funeral services for Alton "Buddy" Self will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 11:00AM at the Beech Grove Methodist Church in Anacoco, LA with Rev. Bill Jones and Rev. Bill Russell officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery under the direction of Jeane"s Funeral Service. Visitation will begin on Friday, March 27, 2015, at 5:00 PM and continue until time of service. Alton Self was born August 10, 1934 to Frank and Lena Harvey Self in Anacoco, LA and passed away peacefully at his residence on March 21, 2015 at the age of 80. He was a life long resident of Anacoco and a 1953 graduate of Anacoco High School. He worked in Galveston, TX in a ship yard where he met his wife Patricia. In 1970 they moved back to Anacoco, and he began working as a motor grader operator for Vernon Parish Police Jury. Several years later, he began to work at Apeck for Mr. Charlie Williams where he built and maintained miles of roads in Vernon, Beauregard, and Sabine parishes. He retired in the early 90"s so he could enjoy his hobbies. He loved to hunt and fish with this brother-in-law, Ottis. He also enjoyed planting a huge garden big enough for everyone and tinkering with old lawn mowers and weed eaters. His greatest love was his grandkids and great grandkids. They were the light of his life. He received an amazing gift on Valentine"s day by receiving the Lord as his Savior and was baptized. Preceding him in death were his wife of 44 years, Patricia Self, sister: Gwen Corley, brother: Walter Self, and niece: Pam Phillips. Survivors are his daughter Kathleen "Kathy" and Kevin Wenthe of Anacoco, LA Sister: Lillian and Charles " Ottis" Sanders of Lake Charles, LA Grandchildren: DeAnna, Juston, Liza, Jessica, and Nicole Great-Grandchildren: Allen, Rebecca, Blake, Candice, Brenden, Tim, McKenna, Alissa, Bryan, Jordan, Conner, and Dylan Nieces: Kristi and Beth Nephews: Steve, Brad, and Wayne Words of comfort may be extended to the family at www.jeanesfs.com
