Obituary for Albert Owen Gibbs
Albert Owen Gibbs was born June 14, 1940 in Karnack, TX and passed away July 29, 2019 in Leesville, LA. He graduated from Marthaville High School and lived with his family in Natchitoches and Caddo Parishes for most of his life.
Mr. Gibbs enjoyed tinkering to make useful things work better. He often took things apart to see how they worked and always had several projects in progress. While living in Shreveport, the children of the neighborhood would knock on the door and ask for ‘Mr. Fix-It Man’. Several hundred dolls were gently nursed back to health in his little doll hospital. Radios, watches, and bicycles were also remediated by the patient ‘Mr. Fix-It.’ He liked math games, puzzles, reading cowboy books, creating bead jewelry, and interacting with people. He was proud of his Texas heritage and loved his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William Calvin Gibbs and Dola Jessie Pauline McHam Gibbs; brothers, William Chester Gibbs, Paul Edward Gibbs, and James Calvin Gibbs.
Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Dola Wheeler (Marvin) of Abbottstown, PA; nephews, James “Jimmy” Gibbs (Mary) of Leesville, LA; John Gibbs (Carissa)of Duson, LA; nieces, Dola Marie Gibbs of Palm Desert, CA; Jennifer Gibbs of Leesville, LA; Dola “Callie” Fuhrman of Hanover, PA; and a host of great and great-great nephews and nieces.
A family prayer and burial will be at Beulah Methodist Church Cemetery in Marthaville, LA at a later date.
Uncle Albert’s family wishes to sincerely thank The Woodlands Healthcare Center’s nurses, staff, administration, volunteers, and other residents for enriching his last years of life.
